The Common Admission Test (CAT) is a national-level exam conducted by IIM in the month of November every year. Candidates who dream of getting admission to MBA into top IIMs must attempt this test and score a good rank to get shortlisted.
Now, the question is what you should study to be prepared for this exam. The exam conducting body does not release the official CAT Exam Syllabus in detail. It only releases the exam sections that need to be covered by the students to attempt the examination.

Topics to Be Covered in CAT Exam Syllabus

VARC Syllabus for CAT
The Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension section of CAT mostly covers questions related to English Grammar, Vocabulary-based Questions, Sentence Complete, Comprehensive Passage, Cloze Test, Verbal Reasoning, Jumbled Paragraphs and Para Jumbles. You can expect a total of 24 questions, which include both the MCQs and TITA questions.
Start preparation early and develop a habit of reading to ace this exam with a good rank. Make a note of all the new words you have learnt with their meanings, and attempt various quiz sessions to track your preparation level.
CAT Syllabus for DILR
The Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning section includes mostly reasoning-based questions, and tests candidates’ logical abilities. Considering the previous years’ trends, a total of 20 questions can be asked from this section, with 14 MCQs and 6 TITA Questions. The topics to be covered in this section are as follows:
- DI Topics: Routes and Networks, Tables, Radar Charts, Scatter Plots, Line Charts, Venn Diagrams, Column Graphs, Bar Graphs, Pie Charts, Bubble Charts, Data Caselets, etc.
- LR Topics: Order and Ranking, Arrangements, Team Formation, Games, Tournaments, Binary Logic, etc.
CAT Quant Syllabus
The Quant section includes Mathematical questions and tests candidates’ mental calculation and accuracy skills. You can expect a total of 22 questions from the QA section of the CAT syllabus, which include 14 MCQs and 8 TITA-based questions.
Candidates have studied the topics included in the section in their school curriculum, so they only need to clear their basics, check the formulas and learn short-cut tricks. The topics covered in this section of the CAT syllabus are Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Mensuration, Number Systems and Modern Maths.
How Many Days Are Now Left before the CAT Exam Date?
As per the previous years’ trends, the CAT entrance exam is conducted in the month of November every year. So, considering this, the candidates can expect that the CAT Exam Date for the upcoming session can be the last Sunday of November 2023.
