Book-to-movie adaptations are plentiful in the entertainment industry, from television shows to movies. 2022 will see no shortage of these adaptations in theaters and on streaming services such as Disney+ and Netflix.

Here are a few of the films coming in 2022 that are based on popular children’s books and novels.

Better Nate Than Ever

Better Nate Than Ever, written by Tim Federle, will be debuting on Disney+ in the fall of 2022. This film follows 13-year-old Nate, an aspiring Broadway star who becomes disheartened when given the role of a tree in his school play. So Nate and his best friend decide to take matters into their own hands and sneak off to New York City behind their parents’ backs in the hopes of auditioning for Lilo and Stitch: The Musical.

Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile

Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, based on the book by Bernard Waber, follows Lyle, a crocodile who lives with the Primm family in New York City. He enjoys his life with his family, but one of his neighbors insists the Primms should send him to live in a zoo. Lyle’s goal in the story is to convince those who don’t really like him that he’s not as bad as they think. This film will be released in theaters on November 18, 2022.

The School for Good and Evil

The School for Good and Evil is the first story in a 6-books fantasy fairytale series written by Soman Chainani. The series follows Sophie and Agatha at a magical school where kids are trained as heroes or villains. In the first installment, Sophie and Agatha are mistakenly sent to the wrong schools. They must figure out how to get back home while also maintaining their friendship. This movie will be released on Netflix in 2022.

Peter Pan & Wendy

Peter Pan & Wendy is a live-action remake of the original children’s story published in 1904 by J.M. Barrie. Starring Jude Law as Captain Hook and Jim Gaffigan as Hook’s sidekick, Mr. Smee, Peter Pan & Wendy will be released on Disney+ in 2022.

White Bird

Based on R.J. Palacio’s graphic novel, White Bird follows a boy named Julian as his grandmother tells him the story of her time as a child in Nazi-occupied France during World War II. During her story, his grandmother details her friendship with a boy she and her friends shunned, teaching Julian lessons on kindness and acceptance.

There is a wide assortment of book-to-movie adaptations coming soon to theaters and streaming services. From children’s books to remakes of classics, book lovers will be in for a treat in 2022.
